On linux you need xanim in order to use play command. You may download xanim from: http://xanim.polter.net/ Then:
- Download and unpack xanim.
- install xutils-dev (containing xmkmf)
- install x11proto-core-dev (containing Xos.h, probably you'll need to add /usr/include/X11/ to $C_INCLUDE_PATH )
- go in xanim folder
- launch xmkmf
- launch make xanim
